Social Work in Palliative and Hospice Care 2403-217-PRSs1
CThe aim of the lectures is to familiarize students with hospice and palliative care, with particular emphasis on the non-medical aspects of the work of the care team. Social problems of patients and their families at the end of life will be assessed and explained. The principles of the work of the interdisciplinary team and the special role of social work in care at the end of life will be presented. The issue of hospice and palliative care in social education about the end of life, death and mourning will be discussed, with particular emphasis on volunteering and social work.
Topics of individual lectures in the cycle:
1. Basic concepts of terminal illness and hospice-palliative care;
2. Emotional and social needs of patients and their families at the end of life and in the face of an inevitable loss;
3. The role of social workers in contact with the patient at the end of his life, his relatives and cooperation with the care and volunteering team;
4. The basic concept of a hospice volunteer and social functions;
5. Practical aspects of education in the field of preparing and running a volunteer hospice;
6. The process of mourning the loss, bereavement and emotional and social support for orphans;
7. Public education about the end of life as "taming" of dying, death and mourning
8. A social worker as a hospice volunteer coordinator in the end-of-life care team and involving the local community in helping and supporting
9. Social challenges in the face of the crisis of unexpected and sudden deaths, as well as severe illness and death of children and adolescents - crisis interventions
In the summary of the lectures, after PPT prestentaions, the final essay and preparation for the exam, particular emphasis will be placed on organizing knowledge about the specific emotional and social problems of patients at the end of life of patients and their families, help after loss and accompaniment during mourning.

Assessment criteria
Assessment methods:
Lecture: W1, W2, U1, U2, K1, K2.
The learning outcomes achieved during the lecture will be assessed on the basis of a test that is passed at least with a grade 3.0 (satisfactory), which is the final exam of the subject.
The final assessment will also include activity during the classes and the quality of the prepared: PPT presentation on a selected topic of PSwOPH and a written essay on a given topic according to the following criteria::

Substantive level of content and cooperation in the group -25%
Assessment of the acceptance of comments, corrections and assessment of the presentation in the course files on Teams -25%
The grading criteria for the written multiple-choice test will be presented prior to the examination, in which the scores:
Above 90%, the rating is very good
80-90% good plus rating
70-80% good
60-70% rating fair plus
50-60% grade is satisfactory
50% pass threshold
