Ethics and intellectual property 7405-AC-EIP-2
The assumptions and objectives of the lecture, as described under the section “Brief description”, are broken down into particular topics, which are implemented successively during the course. The following topics will be presented during the lectures:
- Ethical issues surrounding intellectual property
- The key role of research ethics in ensuring responsible conduct of research
- Ethical issues in academic research:
- Voluntary participation and consent
- sampling
- confidentiality of information
- principle of protection of research participants based on the risk-benefit ratio
- The ethics of selecting research methods that most effectively fit the research objectives
- Intellectual property rights as a vital link in ensuring responsible research conduct
- the role of the Institutional Review Board (IRB) in providing an ethical guarantee of compliance with intellectual property rights
- levels of the Institutional Review Board (IRB) review
- types of academic research allowed for the respect of intellectual property rights: exempted, expedited, full board review
- Ethics and intellectual property as applied code ethics
- Ethical clauses in applications for ethical approval of research projects: participants, benefits of the study, research integrity and transparency
- The dangers of unethical practices
- Requisite for ethics in research in the context of intellectual property rights.

K1 - Presentation of the research project (multimedia presentation or paper)

The following grading thresholds scaled in percentages are adopted:
- grade sufficient (3.0): 56% and above,
- sufficient plus (3.5): 66% and above,
- good (4.0): from 71%,
- good plus (4.5): from 81%,
- very good: from 91%.
