Methods of exploration and documentation in forensic anthropology 2600-OG-EN-MEDFA

Students learn about the definitions and methodology of the following topics: search and prospection (including invasive and non-invasive methods, air and aquatic exploration, survey research, electrofusion method or GPR - ground-penetrating radar); exploration and field documentation (objects, burnt material, sites with extensive stratigraphy, microstratigraphy, places of mass crimes, measurement grids); taking and securing evidence. They become competent in common methods used both in archaeological research and forensic investigation, the difficulties and methods of exploration. They learn about the algorithms of proceeding in the case of taking human bone remains from various sites and get to know the basic methods of securing and preserving evidence obtained as a result of exploring various environments.
Students learn geophysical methods that enable the identification of the crime science, including the place where the human remains were deposed. They understand the methods of exploring and documenting both single graves (including inhumated and cremated), mass graves or crash sites (based on the real examples from anthropological and archeological practice). They also obtain basic information on the collection, preservation and storage of bone material.
