The course addresses selected aspects of the history of the Anglophone book. In the class discussion part, an outline of writing, printing and publishing will be addressed on the basis of selected texts. In the practical part, the students will explore selected material forms of major works of American and British literature through the lens of the book-history developments.

The class discussions are based upon students’ reading of An Introduction to Book History by David Finkelstein and Alistair McCleery (Routledge 2006).

Efekty uczenia się - wiedza

The student W1: has thorough knowledge of the book publishing history in Anglophone countries, and of selected British and American literary works (K_W05) W2: has in-depth knowledge of the connection between book history research and literary studies (K_W05).

The student U1: is capable of analysing a selected literary work from the perspective of the development and limitations of book history (K_U13).

good – 76-85 %
