Rhetoric - the Art of Persuasion 2500-OG-EN-RAOP
The main aim of this class is to equip the student with the knowledge and skills suitable to become a conscious user of rhetoric and reflect upon the meanders of persuasion and eventually be more aware of one’s and others words and patterns of argumentation. The core of the course is based on developing creative skills in art of persuasion and mastering the most important tenets of the rhetorical theory. The special emphasis is to be put on the practical rhetorical analysis of the argumentation schemes and persuasive devices used in examples of both historical and contemporary discourse We will also try to reconstruct historical and philosophical contexts lying behind the analyzed speeches. We will study the following topics:
The birth of the theory of rhetoric and its further developments
Why and how to breathe
How to move an audience
Patterns of argumentation
The rule of the first impression
How (not) to present oneself
How to compose an argument
Writing a presidential speech
Rhetoric in times of culture wars and political correctness

satisfactory-10-11,99 (50%)
satisfactory plus- 12-13,99 pts (60%)
good - 14-15,99 pts (70%)
good plus- 16-17,99 pts (80%)
very good- 18-20 pts (90%)
