English for Social Sciences 2405-S-3-S1-ESS
The main aims of this course are:
1. Introduction to the concept of English as lingua franca and its social implications
2. Introduction of basic vocabulary for social sciences
[Importance of professional vocabulary]
3. Learning some practical skills – useful when using English in a professional context
This class is constructed of three main pillars: reading, writing and speaking.
The reading part, as preparation for class and part of in-class work, will touch selected knowledge in sociology and other social sciences that use sociological vocabulary.
The writing component aims at developing student's writing skills while touching various issues of student's interest as well as asigned topics.
Finally, the speaking component will focus on dealing with problems and solutions for communication in English-speaking culture in academia and business.
Overall, this seminar includes a combination of individual and team work on selected issues, debates and written tasks.

Kryteria oceniania
Final grade comprises the following components:
1. Student participation in classes (absence in up to 2 course meetings allowed)
2. Active participation in class activities (graded based on student's involvement in activities asigned by the teacher) - 20%.
3. Essay mind map (to be provided in the PDF format to the teacher's e-mail address) - 20%.
4. Report (to be written during one class) - 20%.
5. Student's public speech (to be delivered during the course to the teacher and classmates, according to instructions and rules discussed during class)- 25%.
6. Final test (to be written during the last class meeting) - 15%.
