Critical thinking and the art of discussion 2401-CS-MF-CTaTD
This course will provide students with a basic understanding of critical thinking through considering its historical development and how it is interpreted by various authors. We will also analyze the differences between dialogue, debate, discussion, scientific discussion, philosophical discussion and community of inquiry. Students will also learn about the various types of fallacies and biases encountered in discussions.
The course is focused on practical aspects of how to apply this knowledge in daily life as well as in academic situations and scientific inquiry. Students will have opportunities to complete exercises, explore case studies and, most importantly, take part in discussions on topics related mainly to cognitive science.
