Developmental Neuropsychology 2401-CS-12-DN-s2
The main purpose of this lecture is to present knowledge on brain function and behaviour in infants, children and adolescents. The course participants will learn about the history of neuropsychology with the focus on child neuropsychology and the clinical and experimental methods of investigation in child neuropsychology and developmental neuroscience. Student will gain knowledge about the development of the central nervous system (CNS) and the neurodevelopmental course of childhood disorders. Sensitive periods in child development and their connection to developmental neuroplasticity will be discussed. The crucial role of the primary caregiver in establishing the optimal conditions for brain development will be stressed. Cognitive, emotional and behavioural dysfunctions in children with neurodevelopmental disorders will be described in the context of brain structure and organization. Basic methods of diagnostics and intervention in child neuropsychology will be addresses together with psychosocial correlates of neuropsychological dysfunctions.
