Subject will be delivered via 4 channels:
LECTURES
• Via Teams application
• Introduction and basic knowledge
• Presentation of current organisation process of palliative care in Poland and Worldwide
• Discussion about terminally ill patient care, basic communication skills, interdisciplinary relations within the team and between us and the patient, family and/or carer.
• Next topic will be: presentation of the most common ailment and symptoms within respiratory system and pain treatment. We also discuss ethical approach towards the end-of-life care as this is a vital part of a daily duties of not only nursing team but the whole palliative care team also.
PRACTICAL WORK
• Practical work will be based on the theory and knowledge gained by the students during clinical and general study to date. Discussion about actions necessary to minimise or completely eliminate following ailments occurring in the palliative care patients : pain, multiple systems symptoms, skin changes. Also, we will be discussing most common ailments in palliative care patients other than cancer.
You will be given assignments based on the role of nurse in the palliative care therapy team.

WORK PLACEMENT
• Students aim should be to firstly, familiarise themselves with ward topography, main daily tasks and nursing duties, as well, as nursing files and individual patient’s medical record.
• Practical use of the knowledge gained to date during lectures and practical studies
• Making nursing diagnosis and treatment introduction, leading the care process
• Filling out required documentation
SELF STUDY
• Students will be expected to document their self-study by presenting both: hard and electronic copy of essays on the subjects given by the end of December – they can be found on Palliative Care Institute website
