Neurological nursing covers topics related to the problems and care for patients with neurological diseases treated conservatively and surgically, such as:
- cerebral vascular diseases,
- demyelinating diseases,
- neuromuscular diseases,
- neuroinfections,
- peripheral neuropathies and selected diseases of the cranial nerves,
- neurodegenerative diseases,
- epilepsy,
- headaches and dizziness,
- tumors of the brain and spinal cord,
- spine diseases,
- craniocerebral injuries,
- spine injuries.
Furthemore, it raises issues related to the diagnosis of patients with disorders of the nervous system
Całkowity nakład pracy studenta
Balance of student workload:
- participation in lectures: 25 hours ( 0,7 ECTS)
- participation in practical training: 80 hours (3 ECTS)
- participation in work placement/clinical placement,: 80 hours (3 ECTS)
- preparation for practical training: 5 hours (0,1 ECTS)
- reading the indicated literature + self-study preparation: 20 hours (0,5 ECTS)
- exam preparation + exam: 9 + 1 = 10 hours (0,2 ECTS)
The total student workload is 220 hours, which corresponds to 7,5 ECTS credit.

W5. principles of preparing patients of different age and health condition for tests and diagnostic procedures, as well as principles of care during and after these tests and procedures - D.W5
W6. properties of drug groups and their effects on patient systems and organs in various diseases depending on age and health condition, including side effects, drug interactions and administration routes - D.W6;
W7. nursing standards and procedures used in the care of patients of various age and health condition - D.W7;
W8. patient's reactions to the disease, admission to hospital and hospitalization - D.W8;
W9. rules for the organization of specialist care (neurological and neurosurgical) - D.W10;
W10. methods, techniques and tools for assessing the state of consciousness - D.W18

He can:
U1. gather information, formulate a nursing diagnosis, set goals and plan for nursing care, implement nursing interventions and evaluate nursing care - D.U1;
U2. provide self-care counseling for patients of different age and health status regarding developmental defects, diseases and addictions - D.U2;
U3. prevent complications in the course of diseases - D.U3;
U4. provide the patient with oxygen on an ad hoc basis and monitor his condition during oxygen therapy – D.U9;
U5. prepare the patient physically and mentally for diagnostic tests – D.U12;
U6. document the patient's health situation, the dynamics of its changes and the nursing care provided, including IT tools for data collection – D.U15;
U7. teach the patient and his / her caregiver to select and use nursing and rehabilitation equipment and medical devices – D.U16;
U8. recognize complications of pharmacological, dietary, rehabilitation and therapeutic-care treatment – D.U18;
U9. have a therapeutic conversation – D.U20;
U10. conduct bedside rehabilitation and activation with the use of elements of occupational therapy – D.U21;
U11. provide information to members of the therapeutic team about the patient's health – D.U22;
U12. assist the physician in the course of diagnostic tests – D.U23;
U13. assess the level of pain, the patient's response to pain and its severity, and apply pharmacological and non-pharmacological pain management – D.U24;
U14. prepare and administer medications to patients in various ways, either on their own or on the physician's orders – D.U26

Wymagania wstępne
A student starting education in the subject of Neurological Nursing should have knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the CNS and neurology.

Kryteria oceniania
Final exam - test (1st and 2nd dates)
The student has the right to take the exam in the subject twice.
If the student does not receive a positive grade on the first date of the examination, he / she is entitled to the second date of the examination.
In the event of unjustified attendance at the first scheduled examination date, the student loses the right to one examination.
Exam in the form of a test - 20 questions
Positive rating - 60% and more
Negative rating -> 60%
Test evaluation criteria:
60-69% - (12-13 correct answers) - 3 (satisfactory)
70-79% - (14-15 correct answers) - 3+ (sufficient plus)
80-89% - (16-17 correct answers) - 4 (good)
90-95% - (18 correct answers) - 4+ (good plus)
96-100% - (19-20 correct answers) - 5 (very good)
