W cyklu 2022/23:
The subject is carried out in the form of lectures, practical classes, self-education and professional practice. The lectures are intended to familiarize the student with the principles of care for the mother in labor and newborns during childbirth and puerperium in accordance with the currently applicable standards. Practical classes are aimed at acquiring skills in providing maternity care in normal situations and in selected states of pregnancy pathology. After completing the professional practice, the student will be prepared to provide health services for a woman giving birth, a newborn and a woman in labour in accordance with the nursing process.

W1: knows the risk factors and health hazards among patients of different ages; (D.W1)
W2: knows the etiopathogenesis, clinical symptoms, course, treatment, prognosis and principles of nursing care for patients in selected diseases; (D.W2)
W3: knows the principles of diagnosing and planning patient care in general, surgical, obstetric and gynecological, pediatric, geriatric, neurological and psychiatric nursing, intensive care, palliative care, long-term care; (D.W3)
W4: knows the types of diagnostic tests and the rules for ordering them; (D.W4)
W5: knows the rules of preparing a patient of different age and health condition for tests and diagnostic procedures. Also knows the rules of care during and after these examinations and treatments; (D.W5)
W6: knows the properties of drug groups and their effects on the patient's systems and organs in various diseases depending on age and health, including side effects, interactions with other drugs and administration routes; (D.W6)
W7: knows the standards and nursing procedures used in the care of patients of different ages and health conditions; (D.W7)
W8: knows the patient's reactions to disease, admission to hospital and hospitalization; (D.W8)
W9: knows the purpose and principles of pre-contraceptive care and the principles of planning care for a woman in physiological pregnancy; (D.W15)
W10: knows the stages of physiological delivery and the rules of care for a woman during the puerperium; (D.W16)

U1: is able to collect information, formulate a nursing diagnosis, set goals and a nursing care plan, implement nursing interventions and evaluate nursing care; (D.U1)
U2: is able to provide counseling in the field of self-care of patients of different age and health state regarding developmental defects, diseases and addictions; (D.U2)
U3: is able to prevent complications occurring in the course of diseases; (D.U3)
U4: is able to administer temporary oxygen to the patient and monitor his condition during oxygen therapy; (D.U9)
U5: is able to prepare the patient physically and mentally for diagnostic tests; (D.U12)
U6: is able to issuea referral for specific diagnostic testsh; (D.U13)
U7: is able to prepare records of prescription forms of medical substances as part of treatment continuation; (D.U14)
U8: is able to document the patient's health situation, the dynamics of its changes and provided nursing care, including IT tools for data collection; (D.U15)
U9: is able to recognize complications of pharmacological, dietary, rehabilitation and therapeutic-care treatment; (D.U18)
U10: is able conduct a therapeutic conversation; (D.U20)
U11: is able to provide information about the patient's health to the members of the therapeutic team; (D.U22)
U12: is able to assist a doctor during diagnostic tests; (D.U23)
U13: is able to assess the level of pain, the patient's reaction to pain and its severity, and apply pharmacological and non-pharmacological pain management; (D.U24)
U14: is able to prepare and administer medications to patients in various ways, independently or on the orders of a doctor; (D.U26)

(po angielsku) A student continuing training in obstetric nursing should have knowledge of human anatomy and physiology, the physiology of pregnancy, childbirth and puerperium, and the physiology and problems in the course of lactation.
