The subject is delivered in the form of lectures, practical classes and professional practice.
The lectures are designed to familiarise the student with the structure, assumptions and tasks of long-term care, organisational forms of provided services. The lectures also consider standards and procedures in long-term care and specific problems in the work of a long-term care nurse (e.g. professional burnout). Classes these have als as task familiarise student regulations legal regulations concerning functioning of long-term care, as well as with the medical documentation applicable in this form of care. In addition, the lectures are devoted to discussing the specifics of care towards
selected groups clients with chronic diseases who are the most frequent clients of long-term care. Practical classes and professional practice are designed to prepare the student for the implementation of health care services in the framework of long-term care.

In terms of knowledge, the graduate will:
D.W10 principles of long-term care organisation;
D.W1 risk factors and health risks in people receiving long-term care; D.W2 the aetiopathogenesis, clinical manifestations, course, treatment, prognosis and principles of nursing care for patients in long-term care; D.W3 principles of diagnosis and care planning in long-term care; D.W6 the properties of drug groups and their effects on the patient's systems and organs in long-term care, in different diseases according to age and condition, including adverse effects, interactions with other drugs and routes of administration;
D.W9 the ageing process in biological, psychological, social and economic terms;
D.W11 the etiopathogenesis of the most common conditions of old age; D.W12 tools and scales for assessing the support of older people and their families and the principles of their activation;
D.W7 nursing standards and procedures used in the care of patients of different ages and health conditions.

In terms of skills, the graduate will:
D.U1 gather information, formulate a nursing diagnosis, set nursing care goals and plan, implement nursing interventions and evaluate nursing care;
D.U2 carry out self-care counselling of patients of different ages and health status regarding illness and addiction;
D.U4 organise the isolation of patients with an infectious disease in a long-term care facility and in the home setting;
D.U6 select the technique and methods of wound care, including the application of dressings;
D.U7 select wound care methods and measures based on their classification;
D.U15 document the patient's health situation, the dynamics of change and the nursing care provided, using the documentation currently used in long-term care facilities; use IT tools to analyse the data collected about the patient;
D.U18 recognise complications of pharmacological, dietary, rehabilitative and therapeutic treatment; D.U20 conduct therapeutic conversations with patients of different ages and health status and their family/carers;
D.U21 provide bedside rehabilitation and activation using elements of occupational therapy;
D.U22 communicate information about the patient's condition to selected members of the therapeutic team;
D.U26 prepare and administer medicines to patients by various routes:
via the digestive system (orally, rectally), parenterally (by injection and by inhalation);

Criteria:
- Attendance is compulsory,
- evaluation method:
- setting up an individual care plan for the client and his/her family and its implementation in an inpatient facility or in a home setting
- Credit - 5: The student implemented the individual patient care plan and properly documented the nursing process at an optimal level.
- Credit - 4: The student implemented the individual care plan in the patient and properly documented the nursing process and made minor insignificant errors.
- Credit - 3: The student completed the individual care plan and documented the nursing process appropriately and made mistakes, which did not result in insecurity for the patient, his family and the student himself
- Failure to pass - 2: the student was unreliable, followed the patient's individual care plan and made mistakes that could have resulted in a safety risk for the patient, family and others
