The subject is conducted in the form of lectures and exercises.
Lecture topics include basic issues regarding physiotherapy in palliative care:
• Basics, goals, and philosophy of physiotherapy in palliative care.
• A physiotherapist facing the problems of a patient with an advanced stage of life-limiting diseases.
The topics of the exercise include the following topics:
• Lymphedema - pathophysiology and conservative treatment (comprehensive physiotherapy of lymphedema - practical presentation of selected methods of treating lymphedema, including multi-layer bandaging).
• Physiotherapy as an element supporting the treatment of selected symptoms in oncology and palliative care.
• Bone metastases – possibilities of physiotherapy.
• Principles of symptomatic treatment in palliative care – interdisciplinary approach.

W1: aetiology, pathomechanism, symptoms and course of the most common diseases in the scope of palliative maedicine, in sufficient detail to enable rational use of physiotherapy modalities, DW.3
W2: principles of diagnosing and general principles and methods of treatment of the most common diseases in the scope of palliative medicine, in sufficient detail to enable rational use of physiotherapy modalities, DW.4
W3: basics and principles of International Classification of Functioning Disability and Health, ICF)- D.W16

U1: instruct patients or their caregivers in performing exercises and medical training at home, how to use medical devices and use everyday objects for therapeutic purposes- D.U07

U4: implement procedures aiming at improving the quality of life of patients, including terminal patients, using rehabilitation equipment, D.U48
U5: plan, select and modify rehabilitation programs for patients with various dysfunctions of the musculoskeletal system and internal diseases depending on the clinical, functional and mental (cognitive-emotional) condition of the patient, his or her needs and the needs of actual caregivers - D.U49

Wymagania wstępne
A student starting education in clinical physiotherapy in pulmonology should have knowledge of anatomy, physiology, kinesiotherapy, therapeutic massage and physical therapy, as well as basic issues related to palliative medicine.
