Palliative care:
• is the active total care of patients and their families, usually when theirdisease is no longer responsive to potentially curative treatment, although it may be applicable earlier in the illness
• provides relief from pain and other symptoms
• aims to achieve the best possible quality of life for patients and families
• responds to physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs
• extends as necessary to support in bereavement.

W1: knows and understands the causes, symptoms, and principles of diagnosis and treatment in the most common palliative care problems, including:
a) symptomatic treatment of the most common somatic symptoms,
b) management of cancerous cachexia, prevention and treatment of bedsores
c) the most common health emergencies in palliative medicine (EK W27)
W2: knows the principles of palliative care of a terminal patient (EK W28)
W3: knows the principles of pain management, including cancer-related and chronic pain (EK W29)
W4: knows and understands the concept of impairment and permanent and temporary disability (EK W30)

1. entrance test/questions (asistents)
2. Final TEST: multiple choice test, number of questions – 20, 4-5 multiple-choice answers, out of which only 1 is correct, duration 15 (20) minutes
Assessment criteria:
fail – 0-11 pts (0-55 %)
satisfactory – 12-13 pts (56-67 %)
satisfactory plus –14-15 pts (68-75 %)
good – 16-17 pts (76-83 %)
good plus – 18 pts (84-91%)
very good – 19-20 pts (92-100%)
