Gastroenterology deals with the diagnosis and treatment of the most
common gastroenterological diseases in adults and their complications.
This course explains basic disease entities and syndromes in
gastroenterology, including diseases of upper and lower part of intestine,
pancreas and liver diseases and nutrition disorders; it helps to
understands causes, symptoms, and principles of diagnosis and
treatment of conditions related to gastroenterological disorders –
gastrointestinal tract bleedings, varices oesophagus, non-specific bowel
diseases. During this course students can observe endoscopy
(gastroscopy and colonoscopy), ultrasonography, tomography,
manometry and pH-monitoring

Student knows and understand:
E.W1: environmental and epidemiological determinants of the most common diseases
E.W7 causes, symptoms, complications, and principles of diagnosis and treatment of the most common internal diseases in adults:
1) gastrointestinal diseases, including: diseases of the oral cavity, oesophagus, stomach and
duodenum, bowels, pancreas, liver, bile ducts and gallbladder,
2) water-electrolyte and acid-base imbalance: dehydration and overhydration, electrolyte imbalance, acidosis and alkalosis

Student knows and understand:
E.U1: perform a medical interview with an adult patient
E.U3: perform a full and targeted physical examination of an adult patient
E.U7: evaluate a patient’s general condition and level of consciousness and awareness
E.U12: perform a differential diagnosis of the most common diseases in adults and children

Classes take the form of lectures, seminars and tutorials conducted at the
patient’s bedside and focusing on the improvement of skills related to
physical examination and medical history taking.

Wymagania wstępne
Student should have basic knowledge in the scope of anatomy and
physiology of the gastroenterological tract, pathophysiology and
pathomorphology of gastroenterological, liver and pancreas
diseases, and fundamentals of internal diseases and pharmacology
Kryteria oceniania
Assessment methods:
- practical test
- 0-1 scoring system
- final test ≥60%
- combined exam ≥60%
- prolonged observation > 50%
Assessment criteria:
Student will receive a credit for the course, obtaining positive results in test and a positive assessment in the field of social competences which is a condition for taking the final test
