Endokrynologia z diabetologią

The course includes 6 hours of lectures, 14 hours of seminars and 30 hours of tutorials. Topics of seminars are concerned with the most common diseases of endocrine system, including diabetes.
During tutorials students have the opportunity to use this knowledge in clinical practice and to acquire or improve practical skills.
Tutorials are conducted at the patient’s bed. During tutorials, medical history of patients hospitalized in the Department of Endocrinology and Diabetology is analyzed. Students perform physical examination, analyze results of laboratory investigations, perform differential diagnosis, propose treatment and evaluate it’s efficacy.

. 1. Study hours involving teacher participation:
- lectures- 6 hours (can be as e-learning) 0,24 ECTS
- seminars – 14 hours,

Study hours involving individual student work: 81 hours, which is 2,7 ECTS (81/30).
3. Study hours involving conducting scientific research:
- reading scientific literature – 6 hours
- consultations 0,5 hour
- attendance in tutorials (with regard to results of scientific investigations in the field of endocrinology and diabetology) 16 hours
- preparation for tutorials (with regard to results of scientific investigations in the field of endocrinology and diabetology) 6 hours
- preparation for test (with regard to results of scientific investigations in the field of endocrinology and diabetology) 3 hours

Student:
W1: knows mechanism of hormone action (C.W51)
W2: knows environmental and epidemiological determinants of the most common endocrine diseases (E.W1)
W3: knows causes, symptoms, complications, and principles of diagnosis and treatment of the most common endocrine diseases in adults, including: diseases of the hypothalamus and pituitary gland, thyroid gland, parathyroid glands, adrenal cortex and medulla, ovaries and testes, neuroendocrine tumours, polyendocrine syndrome, different types of diabetes and metabolic syndrome: hypoglycaemia, obesity, dyslipidaemia (E.W7)

Student is able to:
U1: correlate images of tissue and organ damage with the clinical symptoms of endocrine disease, medical history and results of laboratory determinations (C.U11)
U2: give advice on following therapeutic recommendations and healthy lifestyle in patients with diabetes (D.U9)
U3: perform a medical interview with an adult patient with disease of endocrine system (E.U1)
U4: perform a full and targeted physical examination of an adult patient with disease of endocrine system (E.U3)
U5: perform a differential diagnosis of the most common diseases of endocrine system in adults (E.U12)
U6: evaluate and describe the somatic and mental state of a patient with disease of endocrine system (E.U13)
U7: plan diagnostic, treatment and prophylactic procedures in a patient with disease of endocrine system (E.U16)
U8: interpret laboratory test results and identify the causes of deviations from the norm (E.U24)
U9: collect samples of capillary blood for laboratory testing of glucose concentration (E.U28)
U10: plan specialist consultations (E.U32)

Prolonged observation (0–10 points; > 60%): K1–K3
The student will get a credit of the course on the basis of the attendance in all seminars and tutorials, positive results of final test and positive grade of social competence.
Combined examination
The course „Endocrinology and Diabetology” is a part of combined examination in Internal Diseases. The rules of examination in Internal Diseases are set out in separate regulations.
