The subject is to familiarize the student with the legal basics of the operation of the blood service, introduction to serology
and transfusion medicine. Additionally, the topics of post-transfusion complications, hemolytic disease of the fetus and newborn, and the acquisition of skills in serological diagnostics of blood groups will be discussed.
1. Immunological basics of serological research. Detection of the antigen-antibody reaction in vitro.
2. Micromethods in serological research. Automation of serological tests.
3. Basics of inheritance of blood groups. Classification of red blood cell antigens. Clinically important red blood cell group systems.
4. HLA system. Platelet and granulocyte immunology.
5. Qualification of blood and bone marrow donor.
6. Principles of obtaining blood products. Donor blood processing. Hemapheresis. Characteristics of changes occurring during their storage.
7. Selection of blood products for transfusion. Detection and identification of antibodies to red cell antigens. Serological compatibility test.
8. Blood safety. Detection of blood borne infectious agents. Complications after transfusion of blood components.
9. Maternal-fetal serological conflict: pathogenesis, immunological diagnostics and prophylaxis. Fetal and neonatal diseases caused by alloimmunization.
10. Immunohematological research related to the transplantation of hematopoietic stem cells.
