Zajęcia fakultatywne - Pasożyty w praktyce lekarskiej - od teorii do rozpoznania: praktyczne aspekty diagnostyki 1655-Lek22ZF03-J
The course "Parasites in Medical Practice – From Theory to Diagnosis: Practical Aspects of Diagnosis" focuses on parasites of medical importance, which cause numerous illnesses and can cause death worldwide. The course covers the mechanisms of the parasite-host system, diagnosis, pathogenesis, and the epidemiology and prevention of parasitic diseases.
During the practical classes, selected parasitic diseases are discussed in detail in the context of current epidemiological threats. Contemporary issues related to selected tropical diseases, including malaria, as a significant threat to public health, will be presented.
During the practical classes, students will also learn techniques used in the laboratory diagnosis of parasitic diseases, as well as methods applicable in scientific research in the field of parasitology. During the course, students prepare direct and permanent microscopic slides (fixation and staining).
Using selected clinical cases, students perform differential diagnosis of selected parasitoses based on knowledge acquired in the compulsory course "Parasitology." They independently identify parasites found in specimens from patients with mixed infections.
They learn about the use of modern equipment in parasitological diagnostics, including digital image analysis and processing, archiving of diagnostic test results, and an automated system used for parasitological testing.
