Famous biblical love stories 1500-OG-EN-SBR
Biblical love motifs became a prominent subject in art and literature. The course is aimed at presenting several biblical love stories with a special emphasis on their cultural setting. The student will be offered complex knowledge related to the biblical approach to human love. The subjects discussed will be illustrated by greate works of European art.
1. What is the Bible? Basic interpretation rules; 2h
2. Adam and Eve – where it all began; 2h
3. Abraham and Sarah – life begins at 70; 2h
4-5. Women at the well – love motif in the Old and New Testaments; 4h
5. David and the women of his life; 2h
6-7. Song of Songs – the most erotic book in the Bible; 4h

W2: possesses knowledge of diversity of literary genres
W3: is familiar with gender differences in emotional responses
W4: is acquainted with biblical social customs related to marriage and sexuality

U2: is capable of discussing biblical love motifs in art
U3: has basic in discussing cultural similarities and differences in approaching marriage and sexuality
U4: can explain the origin of certain matrimonial customs

K2: understands the need for tolerance and respect toward other worldviews
K3: is sensitive to problems related to gender differences
K4: is aware of challenges related to engaging in marital relationship
Kryteria oceniania
The final grade is determined by combining marks for each assessment item. There are two assessment items – equally valued: attendance (50%) and an essay (50%). The final grade will be calculated as a
weighted average of the two grades earned for the items mentioned.
ASSESSMENT METHODS:
Assessment criteria for attendance:
6 - 7 classes attended – very good
(*)1 missed class allowed
5 classes attended - satisfactory plus
1-4 attended only - fail
Assessment criteria for essay:
- essay - should be 3 to 5 page long. The student is free to pick any topic related to the subjects discussed in class and elaborate on it. The work should meet the standards of academic writings (footnotes, bibliography etc.)
fail- 3 pts (30%)
satisfactory- 4 pts (40%)
satisfactory plus- 5 pts (50%)
good - 6 pts (60%)
good plus- 7 pts (70%)
very good- 8 pts (80%)
The essay should be submitted up to two days before the end of the examination session.
