Biblical Hebrew – introductory course 1500-OG-EN-HBR
It is an introductory course of Biblical Hebrew aimed at making the student acquainted with the beauty of an ancient Semitic language. Special emphasis will be put on the fundamentals of Hebrew morphology, syntax, and vocabulary as related to the first chapter of the Book of Genesis. The student will work out the ability to read the Hebrew text aloud and translate it.
1. Introductory matters – history and characteristic features of the of the Semitic languages; alphabet; 2h
2. Learning alphabet – simple exercises; memorizing simple vocabulary; 2h
3. Learning alphabet – simple exercises; reading simple phrases; 2h
4. Reading and translating Gen 1,1-2; 2h
5. Reading and translating Gen 1,3-6; 2h
6. Reading and translating Gen 1,7-11; 2h
7. Reading and translating Gen 1,12-15; final test; 2h.

U1: is able to read the first 15 verses of Gen 1.
U2: is capable of understand the text read (Gen 1,1-15)
U3: has basic skills in translating the Hebrew text from Gen 1,1-15

Kryteria oceniania
The final grade is determined by combining marks for each assessment item. There are two assessment items: attendance (70%) and test (30%). The final grade will be calculated as a weighted average of the two grades earned for the items mentioned.
ASSESSMENT METHODS:
Assessment criteria for attendance:
6 - 7 classes attended – very good
(*)1 missed class allowed
5 classes attended - satisfactory plus
1-4 attended only - fail
Assessment criteria for the essay:
- essay - should be 3 to 5 page long. The student is free to pick any topic related to the subjects discussed in class and elaborate on it. The work should meet the standards of academic writings (footnotes, bibliography etc.)

satisfactory- 4 pts (40%)
satisfactory plus- 5 pts (50%)
good - 6 pts (60%)
good plus- 7 pts (70%)
very good- 8 pts (80%)
