International Business Law 1300-IBL-KPP
This course will introduce students to the law and dynamics of business transactions conducted between private citizens and corporations in different countries, with a particular focus on transactions between the United States and Poland. We will consider why people and businesses decide to engage in international trade, what risks they face, how they can minimize those risks, and what benefits they hope to gain. The particular focus will be transactions governed by the Convention on the International Sales of Goods (CISG), to which the United States and Poland both belong. However, we also will consider the advantages and disadvantages of different forms of doing business internationally, such as through agencies and distributorships, franchising arrangements, establishment of branches or subsidiaries, etc. We also will examine some government regulation of these private transactions both on the national and international level.
