Toruń - History and Cultural Heritage 1202-OG-EN-THACE

Course in a form of a lecture held within the area of the historical centre of Torun, with main focus on the following issues:
1. Beginnings, plan and spatial development of Torun 13-20th centuries.
2. Temples and problems of multi-confessional town.
3. Old Toruń Town Hall - administrative and commercial centre of the town 13-20 th cc.
4. Fortifications of Toruń and military history of the town.
5. Residential architecture of Toruń
6. Copernicus’ hometown: Astronomer’s house, family and his place in public memory.
7. Teutonic Knights and their heritage in Toruń
8. Modern history of Torun – people and places
The lecture will compensate foreign students for a lack of professional English literature about history of Torun. Students may treat lessons as a chance to acquire English terminology used for describing history and cultural heritage of Toruń and other urban settlements.

(po angielsku) Contact hours with teacher: - participation in lectures: 30 hrs Self-study hours: - preparation for lectures- 30 hrs - reading literature- 30 hrs - preparation for test- 30 hrs Altogether: 120 hrs (4 ECTS)

(po angielsku) Student K1: understands the importance of cultural heritage for development of tourism and self-identity of local community K2: is aware of being responsible for preservation of the cultural heritage of Toruń as a town important for history of Poland and whole Europe
