Violence, hunting and ritual: different faces of death and objects associated with it in the Stone Age 1201-OG-EN-VHRSA
Violence and hunting were integral aspects of prehistoric human societies, influenced by the imperatives of survival, competition for resources, ritual practices, and social dynamics. The Stone Age exhibits distinctive characteristics concerning violence and hunting practices, with variations across different periods and geographic regions.
Throughout the seminar, students will explore strategies for obtaining food in the Stone Age and the tools used for such activities. Another topic will delve into the significance of rock art as a valuable source for understanding hunting techniques in the Stone Age. Subsequent lectures will address conflicts and wars during this era. In the following seminars, students will learn about Stone Age cemeteries and ritual behaviours associated with death in prehistory. The final topics will explore mass murders and cannibalism in the Stone Age.
