Professional status:
A graduate of the second-cycle studies in Social Work:
- has all the necessary qualifications to do the job of a social worker as defined in Social Assistance Act of 12 March 2004 (uniform text, Journal of Laws of 2008 No 115 item 728) with regard to the changes set out in Act of 16 February 2007 on the Change of Social Assistance Act (Journal of Laws of 2007 No 48 item 320) and the Ordinance of the Minister of Labour and Social Policy of 25 January 2008 on the higher education speciality entitling a graduate to pursue the profession of a social worker (Journal of Laws of 2008 No 27 item 158).
- is competent in diagnosing social problems in the field of social assistance, applying professional methods and techniques to solve them and providing comprehensive help to individuals, groups and communities in need. The graduate is capable of doing both individual and group social work He/She is able to deal with a variety of social problems requiring professional help with individual and social dysfunctioning, resulting, among other things, from poverty, orphanhood, domestic violence, homelessness, unemployment, disability, old age, inadequate child care (especially in families with disability problems and families with many children), alcohol and drug addiction, crime, challenges facing prison leavers re-adjusting to life, migration and refugee status.
- is well-prepared and qualified to work with a wide range of social assistance beneficiaries in social help and care institutions (state and local government administered). He/She is also prepared to set up NGO institutions (associations and foundations) and to manage his/her own social service business. The graduate has various practical skills connected with economic, legal, organisational and administrative aspects of managing this type of social service and assistance business including the indispensable skills of finding the sources of financing business and the competences of applying for necessary funding.
