Fundamentals of climate and climate change 7404-SD-NoZiS-FCLIM

The lecture covers the following topics: History of meteorological observations and measurements in Poland and around the world, the Earth's climate system, basic knowledge of meteorology, climate-forming processes and geographical factors of climate, geographical distribution of selected meteorological elements, classifications of the Earth's climates, basic information on the most important types of climate. In addition, the climates of Europe and Poland will be discussed in more detail. The lecture will end with a discussion of the problem of climate change and its causes and consequences for the environment and societies.

Total student workload

Hours spent with teachers (35 hrs): - participation in lectures - 30 - consultations with an academic teacher - 5 Time spent on individual student work (25 hrs): - reading literature - 10 - preparation for the exam - 15 Total: 60 hrs (3 ECTS points)

Learning outcomes - knowledge

W1: the student has advanced knowledge of climatology, appropriate to the given discipline and scope of the research conducted (P8S_WG); W2: the student knows and understands the modern methodology of scientific research carried out in climatology, especially in the field of studying changes in the Earth's climate (P8S_WG).

U1: the student is able to critically analyze the results of scientific research, especially in the field of research on Earth's climate changes (P8S_UW).

Learning outcomes - social competencies

K1: the student is ready to promote the civilizational and social value of science and scientific research in the field of climatology (P8S_KK).

Assessment criteria

Lectures: written exam in the form of a test to be completed, required grade for a satisfactory grade: 51-60%, 61-70% - satisfactory plus, 71-80% - good, 81-90% - good plus, 91-100% - very good.
