Forest Ecology and Management 7404-FEM

Basic statistical data on Polish forests (species composition, age structure, ownership structure etc.) compared to other countries; main species of plants and animals which occur in European forests, ecological requirements and behavior of some main species; functioning of semi-natural and managed forest ecosystems with regard to links between biotic and abiotic their elements; basic knowledge in field of main disciplines of forestry (silviculture; forest management; forest protection; forest utilization) and of game management; main current dilemmas, problems and trends in modern forestry.

Student: W1: knows main statistics on Polish forests (species composition, age structure, ownership structure etc.) compaered to other countries; knows trends of the statistics and causes which have conditioned the trends (P8S_WG) W2: is familiar with main species of plants and animals occurring in European forests and knows their basic ecological requirements (P8S_WG) W3: has basic knowledge in field of functioning of semi-natural and managed forest ecosystems (P8S_WG, P8S_WK) W4: has in-depth knowledge regarding main disciplines of forestry (silviculture; forest management; forest protection; forest utilization) (P8S_WG, P8S_WK) W5: knows main current dilemmas, problems and trends in modern forestry (P8S_WG, P8S_WK)

Student U1: is able to link one another particular elements of forest ecosystem with regard to ecological forest functioning and to forest management (P8S_UW, P8S_UO) U2: has the ability to recognize main species of plants and animals which occur in European forests (P8S_UK) U3: can discuss and interpret the rationality of forest management treatments executed in particular parts/sections of a forest (P8S_UW, P8S_UK)

Student K1: understands the importance to deepen her/his knowledge in field of forestry and life sciences (P8S_KR) K2: can cooperate, communicate and work with practical foresters who work in European forests (P8S_KR, P8S_KK) K3: is open to initiate actions for the public interests in field of forestry and nature protection (P8S_KK, P8S_KK)
