English for specific purposes VIII 3600-8ZEN-SPCJL-030Z
The aim of the course is to enhance advanced communication competencies in specialised academic discourse, in accordance with the requirements of Level 8 of the Polish Qualifications Framework. The course is designed to develop skills essential for active, informed, and creative participation in an international academic and professional environment.
Participation in the course allows students to deepen their competencies in communicating on specialist topics in a precise, coherent, and contextually appropriate manner—both orally and in writing, and with regard to cultural and disciplinary conventions. The course develops skills necessary for active engagement in international scholarly discourse, including constructing arguments, presenting research problems, conducting critical analysis of viewpoints, and initiating and moderating academic debate.
The course prepares participants to disseminate the results of scholarly work effectively through a variety of communicative formats—from strictly academic texts and presentations (articles, conference papers, panel contributions) to popular science formats addressed to audiences outside the academic community. Participants develop competencies in adapting style, register, and rhetorical strategies to diverse target groups.
An integral component of the course is the improvement of foreign-language skills to at least level B2, in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. These competences enable fluent participation in international academic and professional contexts, including delivering conference presentations, engaging in expert discussions, preparing publications, and collaborating within international research teams.
As a result of completing the course, participants achieve a high level of communicative autonomy, the ability to initiate and sustain interdisciplinary scholarly dialogue, and competencies that support full participation in, and co-creation of, international research environments.
