The Climate of cities 2800-OG-EN-TCOC
Objective of the course: Presentation in a comprehensive and synthetic way of the current state of knowledge in the field of climate of cities.
Course content: Motivation to study urban climates. Main factors controlling urban climate. Radiation and energy balance. Air temperature and Urban Heat Island. Water in the city. Spatio-temporal variability of other meteorological elements in urban areas. Bioclimatic and aerosanitary aspects of life in the city. Geographical controls (eg. floods, heatwaves) and local climate zones. Pollution in urban areas. Practical improvement of the local climate of urbanized areas. Urban adaptation to climate change. Climate of Toruń and Warsaw as an example (data, methods, main outcomes). Cities worldwide and their climate.
