Film and Book Tourism 2800-OG-EN-FBT

The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the phenomenon of film, cartoons, anime and (including comic books) in Poland and in the world. The aim of teaching is also to introduce students to various forms of this type of tourism, e.g.: Visits to locations portrayed within a specific film/television production; visits to studio sets; Visits to specific film/TV theme parks and attractions; Visits to locations where filming is taking place, Visits to film festivals; Visits to sites related to works of fiction and their authors; Participation in organised tours of film celebrity homes, haunts, and associated film sites.
Topics:
• Theory of film and book tourism, position of F&L tourism within cultural tourism;
• Major film festivals of the world, film studios, film-themed parks, film and book museums;
• Characteristics of assorted film, tv productions, anime, cartoons, book and comicstourism destinations;
• Profile of Film and Literary tourist;
• Influence of films/books on the marketing of tourist destinations.

Total student workload

Contact hours with teacher: - participation in lectures - 8 hrs -participation in field activities – 7 h - consultations- 5 hrs Self-study hours: - preparation for lectures – 10 hrs - writing projects – 10 hrs - reading literature – 10 hrs - preparation for test – 10 hrs Altogether: 60. hrs (2 ECTS)

Learning outcomes - knowledge

Student W1: knows main definitions related to various forms of film, comic books, and book tourism; W2: possess knowledge about most often visited film and/or book tourism attractions from Poland and all over the world; W3: is acquainted with assorted film and/or book-oriented sites being touristically attractive (eg. Various locations (e.g. Dubrovnik, Croatia) – Game of ThronesMatamata in New Zealand – Lord of the Rings, 221B Baker Street, London, UK – Sherlock Holmes) W4: understands the impact of the literature and/or film industry on tourism and tourist destinations

Learning outcomes - skills

Student U1: is able to describe in English the most important places and sites related to different film/literary tourism forms and activities (e.g. jet setting); U2: can analyze the tourism potential in terms of film and/or literary tourism, as well as characterize its participants; U3: has basic skills in developing programs of tours organized as part of film/literary/comic books tourism

Learning outcomes - social competencies

Student K1: is aware of the cultural diversity and will better understand differences in other societies through K2: is more tolerant; K3: can cooperate during the implementation of group tasks.
