Across Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Oceans – Part One, Old World 2800-OG-EN-APIO

The aim of the course Across Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Oceans is to acquaint students with geographical, historical, ethnic, cultural and tourism issues of assorted countries from Old World continents (Iceland, Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, Georgia, Azarbaijan, Jordan, Turkey, UAE, India, Nepal, Brunei Darussalam, Malaysia, Myanmar, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia, Singapore, China, Taiwan, South Korea, Japan, Mongolia, Kirgizstan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan) The subject will focus on their main tourist attraction, both of natural (geotourism) and human origin (cultural tourism). There would be also presented some historical background for particular countries territorial development, historical regions and contemporary administrative units, as well as culture, ethnic and social life issues. Some practical information concerning traveling and visiting the described countries will be given.

Student W1: knows main geography features (location, capitals) of assorted countries from listed continents; W2: possess knowledge about main tourist attraction, both of natural (geotourism) and human origin (cultural tourism) of analyzed countries with the focus on UNESCO World Heritage places;

Learning outcomes - skills Student U1: is able to describe in English topographical units and most important monuments and some outstanding places of natural and anthropogenic heritage of discussed countries; U2: is capable to describe similarities and differences in selected physical and social geography features between discussed countries using English geographical vocabulary; U3: is able to use the knowledge to prepare the tourist trip to listed countries. U4: can analyse and explain tourism development of particular country.
