The Role of History in Contemporary Politics 2751-KONJA-TRH
The course will start with a theoretical introduction, which will present the most important aspects of classic and contemporary reflection on the topic of history, collective representations, and politics of memory. After that, students will be asked to perform a literature review in order to propose topics for their individual presentations. During the following classes, selected topics will be presented and discussed. Focus will not be put that much on historical facts and figures, but rather on further perception, reinterpretation, and exploitation of historical facts and representations related to them. The idea of the course is to make students aware of the importance of history in the contemporary world, how historical topics are used and abused by political actors, and how the state of history as a science discipline may be endangered by contemporary political issues.
