Main Political Conflicts – Contemporary Perspective 2751-IP-S2-2-MPC

The Scramble for the World, "hard power", "soft power", "smart power", interrelations between hard, soft and smart power, The role of US, China, Russia, India, the EU on global stage. Political, economic, military and cultural rivalry between US and China. War in Ukraine - decreasing power of Russia. Relations between India and China.Global ambitions of the EU and their limitations.

Total student workload

Classes requiring direct participation of the teacher – lecture: 15 hours Self-study: Reading books on various aspects of international military relations: 40 hours Self-study: Preparation for the exam: 25 hours Total number: 90 hours (three ECTS)

Learning outcomes - knowledge

The students gain detailed knowledge of current global political situation and rivalry between major global powers for world dominantion , the students learn various methods of measuring power of states.

The students are able to read, understand and analyze political, economic and social issues, the students are able to understand and analyze interconnections between those factors.

The students are aware of complexity of global political relations.

Prerequisites

At least intermediate knowledge of English; general knowledge of global politics after 1989.
