(in Polish) Contemporary methods for analyzing selected physiological traits in higher plants 2600-OG-EN-CMFA
The aim of the proposed classes is get the participants acquainted with the present-day techniques of assessing leaf photosynthesis and measuring water transport in plants. The photosynthetic activity will be determined by analyzing four parameters i.e. intercellular carbon dioxide concentration, carbon dioxide assimilation rate, stomatal conductance and transpiration rate. Furthermore, the root conductivity, the rate of sap secretion by the root systems (root pressure), the fresh and dry mass of roots and the difference in osmotic potential between the sap secreted by the root systems and the soil solution will be determined. These parameters will be used to calculate root osmotic conductivity. Within the scope of the classes, the rate of sap flow through the plant stems will be also examined. This parameter will be tested in a daily cycle using sensitive sensors recording the flow of sap through the stem of the plant and sending data to the data logger. Subsequent analysis will provide daily patterns of sap flow through the stem conducting system. Methods of assessing the plant tissue water potential will be presented and practically employed in the course of teaching. Theoretical background underlying the studies processes will be provided.
