Translation of legal and business texts 2510-f2ENG2W-TLBT
The course is aimed at acknowledging students with specificity of legal English (perceived as the language of acts of law) and business English. The focus of analysis are characteristic syntactic, stylistic and semantic features; legal and business terms are also discussed. The course concentrates on textual analysis and translation of various legal and business texts (presenting a varied level of difficulty). The stress is also put on text comprehension in the extralinguistic perspective as well as elements vital for translation workshop (information-mining skills or the ability to use available sources).
Activities during the course consist in translating texts in groups or in pairs (or individually) as well as discussing specific aspects of translations prepared by students.

Assessment methods:
The final examination grade is the sum of the following:
− the results of in-class/ out-of-class tasks involving translation of an excerpt of business and legal texts (30%) (W1, W3, U1, U3, K1, K3)
− the results of a final semester test consisting in translating one excerpt of L&B text from Polish into English and one excerpt of L&B text from English into Polish. (70%) (W1, W3, U1, U2, U3, K3)
Assessment criteria:
fail – 0-59 %
satisfactory – 60-69 %
satisfactory plus – 70-75 %
good – 76-85 %
good plus – 86-90 %
very good – 91-100 %
