The seminar focuses on the cultural representations of conflict, war, trauma and protest in contemporary Anglophone drama. It tries to approach drama and theatre as a significant platform for negotiating and discussing controversial issues. The topics addressed during the seminar include war, terrorism, national identity, minorities. The learning outcomes focus on increasing students’ awareness of the cultural significance of contemporary drama, students’ familiarity with critical approaches to the problems discussed therein as well as the ability to analyse and formulate critical opinions about the issues discussed by contemporary British, American and Canadian playwrights. The students will be also engaged in performing/translating/reviewing selected fragments of the dramatic texts.
