Selected aspects of English literary studies: 21st century drama in English 2510-f2ENG2W-ELT-DIE

The course focuses on the cultural representations of the pandemic, climate crisis, disability and mental health as well as ethnic minorities in recent Anglophone drama. It approaches drama in English as a significant platform for negotiating and discussing vital and controversial issues. The learning outcomes include students’ increased awareness of the cultural significance of contemporary drama in English and students’ familiarity with critical approaches to the problems discussed therein. The main focus will be placed on ethnic identity and diversity as well as intersectionality and disablity as addressed by contemporary drama in English. The course will also examine recent reactions to the climate crisis and the pandemic in drama.

The final mark consists of:
- test results (50% of the final grade)
- assessment of the presentation (20% of the final grade)
- assessment of participation (20% of the final grade)
- assessment of mini-presentation (10% of the final grade)
Please note that the use of AI is not allowed throughout the course. When detected in the presentations, it will result in failing the course (similarly to plagiarism).
