Selected aspects of English linguistic studies: Qualitative methods in language studies and essential tools 2510-f2ENG2W-ELN-QMS
The discussion encompasses, in particular, the distinction between qualitative and quantitative methods in linguistic research, discussion of selected methods in qualitative data collection and qualitative data analysis.
Course content:
- Introduction (presentation of learning outcomes, content of the course, evaluation methods and criteria, code of - conduct);
-Research questions in linguistics, qualitative-quantitative distinction, quality criteria;
- Qualitative data collection (e.g. interviews, focus groups);
- Qualitative data analysis: key approaches (e.g. discourse-analytic approaches to text and talk, conversation analysis, gesture analysis, narrative analysis);
- Essential tools for qualitative analysis: DOTE, NVivo, ELAN.
-Evaluation of the level of achievement of learning outcomes:
written test and short presentations; feedback information on test results and presentations.
