The aim of the course is to translate texts from English into Polish and from Polish into English by transferring the meaning of the original into the target language. The topics of the texts may include tourism and architecture, current affairs, instruction manuals, culture-related events and sport. The text types represented may be news articles, reports, academic papers, manuals, websites, brochures and promotional materials. The range of topics discussed during the semester can be extended on students' request.
Topics:
1. Extracting key information from text.
2. Translating various LSP texts (business, academic, pop-sci, sports).
3. Structural and lexical differences between English and Polish - practice.
4. Generative AI in translators' practice.
5. Building domain-specific glossaries; looking for and verifying equivalents.
6. Peer review.
7. Working with language resources (collocations dictionary, thesaurus, monolingual dictionaries, parallel and bilingual language corpora).

Assessment criteria
Learning materials will be uploaded to the Moodle platform. The student will be obliged to study them, complete topic-related assignments and upload them to Moodle by the agreed deadline.
Assessment methods:
1) group presentation [40%] (pair or group work, around 20 minutes + exercise) covering issues arising in the translation of a text assigned as homework, with:
- specific examples of translation problems,
- suggested solutions,
- useful resources on which the solutions are based),
- related translation exercise for other students.

2) project - [50%] a group project on a text selected by students. The project will also include a descriptive part, where students explain the translation problems they have encountered and their proposed solutions (W1, W2, U1, U2, U3, U4, K1)
3) activity during the class [10%] (U1, U3)
