The course aims at broadening the students knowledge and comprehension of the nature of horror fiction texts. The discussion will revolve around the characteristic features of horror texts, as well as the function and role of horror fiction in society. The expectations and the reception of classic tropes and themes by the readers will also be analysed. The thematic blocks of the course include:
→horror narratives (ghost, vampires, the undead, and cosmic horror)
→horror narratives related to contemporary fears and anxieties (society, social media, ageing and ethics)
Warning: due to the nature of the genre, the examined texts may include disturbing content, or depictions of physical or sexual violence.
