The aim of the course is to familiarize students with selected schools of thought in contemporary literary studies, as well as the ideas behind them and their broader cultural context. The course will introduce and discuss the following theories and concepts:

- post-structuralism
- psychoanalysis
- feminist criticism
- gay/lesbian criticism
- new historicism
- postcolonialism
- cultural theory
- ecocriticism
- new materialism
- digital humanities
- posthumanism
- blue humanities
- citizen humanities/public humanities
- medical humanities
- discussion concerning possible application of the theoretical tools

Total student workload

Contact hours with teacher: - participation in lectures - 15 hrs. - consultations and feedback- 5 hr. Self-study hours: - preparation for the test- 30 hrs. Altogether: 50 hrs. (2 ECTS)

Learning outcomes - knowledge

W1: The student possesses in-depth and systematized knowledge of literary theory and key aspects of Anglophone literature (K_W04, K_W05). W2: The student had in-depth and systematized knowledge of key terms and methods in literary studies (K_W07).

Learning outcomes - skills

U1: The student is able to formulate critical opinions about cultural artefacts on the basis of academic knowledge and experience, and is able to present their critical opinions in various forms and media (K_U15)

K1: The student is able to critically assess their knowledge and other sources of information (K_K01).
