MA SEMINAR IN APPLIED LINGUISTICS (dr Agnieszka Sowińska) 2024/25
Students will be pursuing empirical projects according to their plan from the first semester.The scope and range of topics will be adjusted to the research interests of the students. By the end of the semester they will submit a detailed MA thesis outline with bibliography.

MA SEMINAR IN TRANSLATION STUDIES (dr Dorota Guttfeld) 2024/25
Students will work on empirical projects in translation studies during individual meetings with the supervisor,, then present their research plan and MA thesis outline in class, adjusting them to peer feedback and the supervisor's guidelines. By the end of the semester they will submit a detailed MA thesis outline with bibliography.

U1 (K_U01) The student assesses the usefulness and selects a variety of academic sources to compile a preliminary bibliography for their research project.
U2 (K_U02) The student selects research methods and tools relevant for their selected material and problem in translation studies, applies them on a sample of the material, and, if necessary, modifies these choices or proposes improvements to the selected tools or methods.
U3 (K_U03) The student modifies the outline of their research project to realistically reflect the availability of academic sources and research material, and the applicability of selected tools and methods to the selected material.
U4 (K_U07) The student applies advanced theoretical perspectives and paradigms pertaining to translation studies to formulate and test hypotheses concerning a selected research problem

U2: is able to select, apply and adjust research methods and tools to address both typical and non-typical research problems and react to unpredictable circumstances (K_U02, K_U03).
U3: is able to apply advanced theoretical perspectives and paradigms pertaining to literary and cultural studies and use their knowledge to formulate and test hypotheses concerning uncomplicated research problems (K_U07).
U4: is able to undertake autonomous tasks in the field of cultural and literary studies, taking into account the objectives and instructions formulated by their academic supervisors (K_U08).

In the summer semester, the student:
1) meets with the supervisor and performs individually assigned tasks (40%)
- answers questions about the planned research and, if necessary, modifies its scope
- designs, adjusts and describes methdology and procedures for the practical part of their research
- performs a small-scale proof-of-concept study of a portion of their research material (or similar material)
- compiles a preliminary bibliography for their MA thesis,
- identifies, studies and summarizes or paraphrases excerpts defining key terms and concepts.
2) works on their research plan and an outine of their MA thesis (25%)
- presents the research plan and MA outline in class
- answers questions from their peers and the supervisor (in class and in writing)
3) submits a detailed written outline of their MA thesis (35%)
