The seminar examines the methods of studying culture and the selected aspects of popular culture in Anglophone countries. The students learn how to analyse cultural artefacts, read the critical texts on Anglophone cultures and apply acquired skills and knowledge in practice. The seminar covers the following aspects and phenomena: popular fiction, visual culture, popular music, subculture and counterculture as well as fan fiction.

6. Music video (x2).
7. Subculture (x2).
8. Fandom and fan fiction (x2).

Total student workload

Contact hours with a teacher: 45 - participation in classes - 30 hrs - individual feedback - 15 hrs Self-study hours: 80 - preparation for classes - 50 hrs - researching and writing the assignment - 15 hrs - presentations - 15 hrs Altogether: 125 hrs (5 ECTS)

The student U1: is able to read and comprehend texts of popular literature in English (K_U02) U2: is able to communicate in English, using various communication channels and techniques on issues pertaining to the study of culture and popular literature (K_U05) U3: is able to integrate basic theoretical perspectives and paradigms used in cultural studies (K_U06) U4: is able to use English effectively to speak in public, present arguments and draw conclusions (K_U15)
