Language and linguistics today: Analysis of literary texts for translators 2510-f1ENG2W-LLT-ALT
The course introduces crucial terms in poetics and literary stylistics for the purposes of pre-translation literary analysis and translation assessment. The students practice close reading and annotating literary texts in terms of literary devices and the relationship between style and meaning in a literary work. In-class tasks include text analysis and translation review in terms of:
- typography
- sound
- rhyme
- rhythm
- repetition
- sentence structure
- diction
- imagery
- charatcerization
- point of view, narrative mode.
