The aim of the course is to discuss the most important works in the history of English literature from the late 19th and early 20th century.

2. Modernism - principles and practitoners

Contact hours with teacher online: - participation in lectures- 1 ECTS, 15 hrs. - consultations - 0,2 ECTS, 5 hrs. Self-study hours: - preparation for lectures - 0,2 ECTS, 5 hrs. - preparation for test - 1, 6 ECTS, 25 hrs. Altogether: 50 hrs. (2 ECTS)

Learning outcomes - knowledge

The student: W1: has advanced knowledge of British literature and of such aspects as periodisation, genres and forms, and works by selected authors (19th-21st century) (K_W04) W2: has advanced knowledge of literary studies and their connection to other fields in the humanities (K_W06). W3: has advanced knowledge of selected historical social, religious, philosophical and political issues determining the development of British culture (19h-21st century) (K_W07).

Learning outcomes - skills

The student: U1: is able to place the studied works in a general historical and cultural context of the development of British literature (K_U11). U2: is able to recognise literary genres and conventions of the studied works (K_U12).

Assessment criteria

Attendance is not compulsory. However, you can get extra points for active participation in the lecture.

Assessment of knowledge, skills and social competences:
- test after each semester (W1, W2, W3, U1, U2, K1) - 80% of the final grade
- participation in the lecture - 20% of the grade

good - (78-87%)
good plus- (88-90%)
