The seminar discusses the theoretical aspects of detective fiction and its selected examples in English, from E.A. Poe to contemporary revisions. Beginning with the general context of popular and genre fiction, the course examines detective fiction typologies, its characteristic features, functions and significance with reference to selected short stories, novels and plays based on or experimenting with detective paradigms.
The course consists of three parts:
1. Theory of detective fiction and popular literature
2. Discussion of selected examples of the genre
3. Presentations and projects
