The aim of the course is to discuss the most important works in the history of English literature from Old English literature to the 18th century.

Contact hours with teacher online: - participation in lectures- 1 ECTS, 15 hrs. - consultations - 0,2 ECTS, 5 hrs. Self-study hours: - preparation for lectures - 0,2 ECTS, 5 hrs. - preparation for test - 1, 6 ECTS, 25 hrs. Altogether: 50 hrs. (2 ECTS)

Learning outcomes - knowledge

The student: W1: has advanced knowledge of British literature and of such aspects as periodisation, genres and forms, and works by selected authors (5th-18th century) (K_W04) W2: has advanced knowledge of literary studies and their connection to other fields in the humantities (K_W06). W3: has advanced knowledge of selected historical social, religious, philosophical and political issues determining the development of British culture (5th-18th century) (K_W07).

Learning outcomes - skills

The student: U1: is able to place the studied works in a general historical and cultural context of the development of British literature (K_U11). U2: is able to recognise literary genres and conventions of the studied works (K_U12).

Attendance is not compulsory, yet you can gain extra points for your active participation in the lecture.

Assessment of knowledge, skills and social competences:
- test after each semester - 80% of the final grade
- participation in the lecture - 20% of the grade
