Neuropsychology 2404-P-3-N-sj

During the classes, students acquire general knowledge in the field of neuropsychology. The issues discussed focus on understanding the brain-human behavior relationship and the brain organization of mental processes. During the classes, students acquire knowledge about brain disorders and diseases (injuries, disorders of consciousness, vascular diseases, degenerative diseases) and their neuropsychological consequences (including aphasia, apraxia, amnesia). Students learn the working methods of a neuropsychologist, the basics of the neuropsychological diagnostic process, examples of clinical cases, as well as the latest scientific reports on the discussed issues.
Topics:
1 General diagram of the nervous system. Brain damage (brain injuries, vascular diseases, degenerative diseases of the central nervous system, infectious diseases causing cognitive impairment)
2. Brain hemispheric asymmetry.
3. Consequences of damage to subcortical brain structures.
4. Frontal lobes - structure and consequences of their damage.
5. Parietal lobes - structure and consequences of their damage.
6. Temporal lobes - structure and consequences of their damage.
7. Occipital lobes - structure and consequences of their damage.
8. Gender differences in the structure and functioning of the brain. Brain gender and hormones.
9. Aging and cognitive functioning.

Effects in the field of education: K_W06 has detailed knowledge of the structure and functions of the human nervous system and knows methods of examining its functions; has basic knowledge of the structure and functions of the nervous system of selected animals K_W07 has extended knowledge of the relationships between the functioning of the central nervous system and motor activities, cognitive and emotional functioning of humans K_W26 has structured, in-depth detailed knowledge in the field of clinical psychology, social psychology, animal psychology or neuropsychology Effects in the subject of education: -has knowledge of the relationships between the central nervous system, the autonomic system, and cognitive functioning -knows the causes of brain damage and their symptoms

Effects in the field of education: K_U14 has in-depth skills in observing, diagnosing and rationally assessing complex problem situations and analyzing human and animal behavior; is able to recognize the proper and dysfunctional functioning of people, groups and social organizations K_U15 is able to identify the sources and mechanisms of individual disorders; can propose activities that improve the quality of a person's life Effects in the subject of education: -can search and critically evaluate information in the field of neuropsychology -correctly uses the learned terminology in the field of neuropsychology -can recognize proper cognitive functioning and neuropsychological deficits in patients with brain damage
