Supervision in Social Work 2403-317-PRSs1
Starting from the definitions and structures of the main supervision methods, practical exercises will discuss the relationship between a supervisor and a social worker and the main methods of applying supervision in social work. Examples of various forms of supervision will be indicated: transactional games, work on biography. Showing elements of supervisory management. The use of supervision in the practice of individual help, as well as in team relations, as group supervision. The practical nature of the exercises is to encourage future graduates to use supervision in social work.
Detailed description of the course - substantive content:
I Concepts of social work supervision:
1.Supervision of the meaning of the concept;
2.Supervision in Polish social work;
3. Scopes of applying supervision in social work;
4.Historical roots of social work supervision;
5.Superwizja method of managing social work or professional development of employees ?;
6. The problem of relations between the supervisor and employees using the supervision;
7.Management and professionalism in the provision of social services;
8. Critical views on supervision;
9. Searching for solutions to the conflict between managerial and professional orientation of supervision;
10. Supervision concepts that accept the conflict between managerial and professional orientation;
11.Supervision as managing the change and development of the organization
II. Procedures and applications of social work supervision:
1. Individual and group forms of supervision;
2. Supervisory session;
3. Contract technique;
4.Supervision from the perspective of strengths in social work;
5.Supervision in the face of stress in social work;
6.Supervision in exemplary areas of social assistance;
7. Supervision of managers
III Trading games in supervision:
1.Supervision in the light of Berne's transactional analysis;
2. Games of supervised persons;
3. Games of supervisors;
4. Games of power;
IV Supervision as work on a biography;
1. The place of biography of the subjects of supervision in its process;
2. Biography of a social welfare client as a subject of supervision work; 3. Importance of the biography of a social worker in supervision;
4. Work on the supervisor's biography;
5. Western experiences and the development perspective of social work supervision in Poland
V Elements of supervisory management;
1. Workshops with a team;
2. A little about supervisory management;
3. Interpersonal skills
4. About negotiation and mediation, Supporting employees
VI Work with the team:
1. Is acquiring team building skills worth the effort?
2. What do people need from their group?
3. Attitudes towards the team;

5. Observation of relations in the group;
6. Analysis of group roles;
7. Team communication
Joint debate on the above topics based on the analysis of the texts: Supervision of Social Work, a textbook edited by Mirosław Grewiński and Bohdan Skrzypczak, Warsaw 2013 - debate, exchange of experiences, questions and illustrations of good supervision practices.

Assessment criteria
Assessment methods:
Exercise: W1, W2, U1, K1;
The learning outcomes achieved during the exercises will be assessed on the basis of a presentation on the analysis of the selected form of supervision, passed at least with a grade 3.0 (satisfactory), preceded by reading, preparing and improving the multimedia presentation, in order to put it in Teams files.
The credit will also include a mini-essay on the use of supervision in the field of Social Work described in the Bachelor's Degree
The assessment method will take into account:
Bibliography of the subject used - 25%
Supplementary literature and good practices used -25%
Substantive level of the presented content -25%
Assessment of the competence of oral presentation of content -25%
Assessment criteria will take into account the quality of preparation and conduct of the presentation, acceptance of comments and corrections in the final presentation archived in MS Teams files.
Above 95%, the rating is very good
90% good plus rating
80% good
70% rating fair plus
60% - pass mark, grade satisfactory.
