Acquainting with the main assumptions of axiology as a science about values - selected definitions and theories about values and their connection with philosophy and social work. The student obtains basic knowledge of the concept of "values" and their classification, with basic hierarchies and systems.
The aim of the course is to familiarize the student with the basic knowledge of axiology and with issues directly related to the ethics of social work (main problems and ethical positions in social work, ethics in the context of the goals and tasks of social work). Introduction to axiological and pedagogical issues of human nature. Introduction to ethical reflections and normative ethics as well as professional ethics of a social worker and the basics of the ethics of human rights. Outline of the deontology of the profession of a social worker and institutions of social assistance and social work. The student acquires the ability to systematize detailed knowledge relating to the area of axiology in social work and to recognize ethical dilemmas in social work and social care.
Introduction to ethics, professional ethics and the normative context of social work; gets acquainted with various definitions, a catalog of values in social work, various ethical codes of social workers (introduction to the Code of Ethics of the Polish Society of Social Workers). The student understands and is able to characterize: areas of activity of a social worker, in which ethical dilemmas emerge, taking into account the issues of responsibility of the social worker towards the client, co-workers, employer, own profession and society.

W1: The student has knowledge of the theoretical foundations of social work, their place in the system of social sciences and relations to other sciences (especially ethics). K_W01. W2: The student has knowledge of the standards and principles (legal, organizational, moral, ethical) regulating activities in social work and the functioning of social assistance institutions K_W09.

Learning outcomes - skills

U1: The student correctly uses normative systems and selected norms and rules (legal, professional, moral) necessary for the implementation of tasks in the field of social assistance and social work K_U06. U2: The student has the ability to understand and analyze the basic social phenomena K_U12.

K1: The student is ready to correctly identify and resolve dilemmas related to the profession of a social worker K_K02 K2: The student is ready to complete and improve the acquired knowledge and skills useful in social work. K_K04.

Teaching methods

Exercises with active participation of students, discussion using the seminar method. Compulsory attendance and activity (two absences allowed) 20%. Assessment of the presentation and essay on a selected topic after placing the corrected materials online - 80% of the final grade. - seminar with elements of a problem lecture - ppt presentation - study of good practices and individual cases - a final essay describing a selected ethical dilemma
