Linear algebra - an introduction to data analysis 2401-CS-11-LA-s2
Linear algebra is used in most sciences and fields of engineering, because it allows modeling many natural phenomena, and computing efficiently with such models. The operations on vectors - addition, subtraction, and three types of multiplication play the important role in field of linear algebra. Applications of matrices are found in many scientific fields. The properties of operations on matrices - addition, scalar multiplication, and transposition will be considered. We will also recall the notion of the determinant of a given matrix. Determinants play an important role in finding the inverse of a matrix and also in solving systems of linear equations. We will also get to know with linear combinations, span and basis vectors, linear transformations.

Assessment criteria
Assessment methods:
- written examination – W1
- test – W2
- activity – W3
Assessment criteria:
lecture: written exam with open-ended questions, with the maximum number of 50 points. The resulting mark is given as follows:
fail- <0;45 %)
satisfactory- <45%;55%)
satisfactory plus- <55%;65%)
good – <65%;78%)
good plus- <78%;88 %)
very good- <88 %;100%>
tutorial: written two tests with open-ended questions, with the maximum number of 22 points, each. The sum of these two components is the basis of the final mark according to the following scale:
fail- <0;45 %)
satisfactory- <45%;55%)
satisfactory plus- <55%;65%)
good – <65%;78%)
good plus- <78%;88 %)
very good- <88 %;100%>
